'Govt shielding scam-tainted leaders'
BEHRAMPORE: CPM politburo member Brinda Karat said that the Trinamool Congress suspended Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh because the journalist-turned politician was exposing ministers and party leaders involved in the Saradha scam.
Inaugurating a district conference of the CPM's women's wing in Behrampore on Sunday, Karat said, "Trinamool leaders and ministers impressed upon poor people to save their money with Saradha Group.

We complained earlier, but they did not care. Now, they suspended their MP Kunal Ghosh. But for what reason? Is it that the MP is exposing the names of ministers and leaders who got money from Saradha?"
Karat said that the Bengal government, unlike its counterparts in Tripura, Odisha and Bihar, was "scared" to order a CBI probe into the scam and was probably "shielding" its ministers and leaders.
The CPM politburo member also came down heavily on the chief minister for being unable to ensure women safety. "We hoped women will be safe and secure. But recently, West Bengal topped the list of crime against women, according to a report. Why is it that miscreants have become so active all of a sudden? It is because they are getting oxygen with the chief minister labelling the cases of assault on women as 'fabricated' and 'planted'. I think giving compensation or jobs to Kamduni rape-murder victim's family is a part of the state government's duty. But there should be proper investigation and the culprits should be punished."
